I use the freeware version with multiple servers using rsync and SSH to backup to a backup server which runs Arkeia (freeware) and, thus doesn't use the client software on any of the servers being backed up. The Arkeia freeware only supports ONE client (not counting the server itself). If you are having trouble connecting just one client machine to the server, you'll need to look at your firewall or IPChains on both client and server. There is info in the Arkeia docs on what ports to free up.
