I am setting up a DNS system that allows subdomains to be created automatically when a new user is created. These subdomains then point to a ColdFusion script that I have written that automatically redirects the user to their correct folder to display their website. I am doing all of this with a seperate MySQL database table and have just entered a wildcard into our DNS tables to handle our domain name so that all traffic comes through to our domain name no matter what is before it. Then, I use the ColdFusion script to parse the subdomain and pass the user along. It all worked fine for a couple weeks, however, now I am having some trouble and I am hoping someone can help me figure this out.
Sometimes I go to subdomain1.myhost.com and it works beautifully, correctly redirecting the user to their correct folder via the ColdFusion script. Then, other times I go to the same subdomain1.myhost.com address and I get the good ol "The Page Cannot be displayed" error. I can't figure out why I can go to the address for a couple hours, and then a few hours later that address is not reachable. Then, after a few hours of not being able to reach the address, I go back to the subdomain1.myhost.com address and it works! At least for a few more hours before it goes down again. This has been going on and on for a week now. Is it possible that I have a virus or a trojan horse or something? I can't figure it out. We host our own primary and secondary DNS servers on seperate machines. They both look identical to each other. Has anyone ever experienced subdomains or even domain names that have worked for a few hours and then stopped working for a few hours and then started working again a few hours after that? All of this weirdness is occuring with no changes to the Cobalt server at all. If anyone can help me in any way, I would be most appreciative.
