I cannot speak to your concern, because frankly I agree with you.

However, in the real world, anyone can send email with any return
address they want.  You can send me email from U.S. President Bush, for
example, and unless I take the time to read the headers, I might very
well think it was from President Bush.

So this is no more or less a security issue than any normal email
client.
