Andrew, The Cobalt's ship with InterBase Classic Server edition. That version does not work with the IBConsole. You will need to uninstall that version and install the Super Server version. That will work with IBConsole.
The Super Server version does not use the inetd to start interbase. Ibmgr handles that aspect when you run it from command line. There are also examples of how to make a startup script for IB SS in the pdf documentation that you have to download seperate from the software itself. Good luck hope that helps. Also FYI, if you do decide to look into IB SS, check out Firebird. Borland did open source version 6 of Interbase but beyond that it does not seem to be supported and on a constant state of improvements like most open source projects. Firebird is a DB based on IB 6, but has some advantages, like people are constantly improving it. IT is supposed to be a directly replacement of IB and works with the same DB format.
