FYI, once you set console 'on' it stays on, until you explicitly turn 
it off... :)

As root, type 'dmesg | less' to look at boot info... it's a "rotating" 
file, so as new stuff gets added, old stuff is removed from the "top" 
of the file.  You can also look in /var/log/boot.log for some info, 
but dmesg is your best bet.
