Due to differences in several things between the 550 and other cobalts (primarily glibc and the kernel I believe), I do not think that packages are cross compatible. Your best bet is to get source RPMS and rpm install from those (this actually isn't all that hard). Perhaps someone here is more experienced in loading 550 cobalt packages on older cobalts, but I do not believe this is possible.
