finally, a recompile of openssl with the option of "shared" in the config statement plus adding /usr/local/ssl/lib to /etc/ld.so.conf and then symlinking the libssl.so.0.9.7 and libcrypto.so.0.9.7 to libssl.so.4 and libcrypto.so.4 and now ssh, wget, dig and all other apps work.
now, ive got 6 more cobalt raq3's that ive got to do the same thing on.
