I’ve found this list useful (mostly the archives), but I’m of the opinion that it’s necessary to split the information on the hardware from the distribution so that people can do what they need to (upgrades, new patches, etc.). I must admit, I’ve had no end of problems with the original Cobalt distribution, and was unsatisfactorily running Redhat on the system for about a year before Sun published the boot ROM and utils to upgrade. Since then, I’ve replaced the boot kernel, and installed Gentoo on the system (I’m working on an upgrade to the Gentoo install guide), and I couldn’t be happier. I think it would be a boon for all of the people who are using x86 Cobalt hardware (not to exclude other architectures, but x86 is the easiest to transition) to easily move on to their distribution of choice (especially since Sausalito is now open-source). Let the mailing lists move on to the distributions that people will be using, and let the hardware/boot info stay available online.
