I should also add both my F-10 machines still don't exhibit this problem 
-- the repo field itself does not show itself saved as unicode, nor does 
the file. So it's even better than if it saved it as (valid) u"foo", and 
most definitely isn't doing "ufoo".

Not saying that Tom doesn't have a problem, he likely does, but the code 
looks good to me -- the question was whether a patch didn't make it from 
devel to master, which, right now, I'm not seeing.
