Check in /etc/cobbler/settings for the path to the default kickstart file.
It's usually /var/lib/cobbler/kickstarts/default.ks, and that may be
influencing the pathing you noted above.

You can also run the following to see if cobbler will tell you what the
problem is:

# cobbler validateks
# cobbler check

And if that doesn't reveal anything, perhaps rename your kickstart file to
have a .ks extension, run 'cobbler sync', and then repeat the two validation
commands. I don't have the source code downloaded, so I cannot verify if
this is a hardcoded requirement, or not.
