It doesn't require Openstack knowledge really as it is a standalone thing if you choose to run it that way. You just need a box to act as conductor and database I think.also it's packaged, like the rest of Openstack, by every major Linux vendor. You just have to add the repo (eg. It is now capable of running standalone without any of the other Openstack goo and is built to deploy prebuilt images to bare metal via API.
