Adams County:
--3 Barrow’s Goldeneye (1m.; 2fm) were reported by Trinkner at 88th and the
Platte River on January 11 (4 Barrow’s Goldeneye reported on Jan 17th)
Arapahoe County:
--An adult Great Black-backed Gull and 3 first winter Thayer’s Gulls were
reported by Kilpatrick at Aurora Reservoir on Jan. 18.
Bent County:
--2 imm. Glaucous Gulls were reported by Nelson at John Martin Reservoir on
January 13. The birds were on the ice shelf in Clayton Bay, four miles west
of the dam on the north side of the reservoir.
--A female Red-bellied Woodpecker was reported by Nelson at the Lake Hasty
Campground at John Martin Reservoir on January 13.
Boulder County:
--An adult MEW GULL was reported by Schmoker on the Boulder Bird Club’s
annual winter outing to the Valmont Reservoir Complex on January 17.
--All three species of Rosy Finches were reported by Schmoker at the
Fawnbrook Inn in Allenspark on January 11.
Delta County:
--A juv. Tundra Swan was reported by Beason at Confluence Park on January 11
and was seen again on January 13.
Douglas/Jefferson/Arapahoe Counties:
--Kellner reported that a Dunlin was found at Chatfield on the Denver CBC on
December 20. The Dunlin was last reported in Arapahoe County in the middle
of the river next to a log between E-470 and the foot bridge on January 19.
El Paso County:
--An American Three-toed Woodpecker was reported by Elwonger on the Cascade
Creek trail off of the Pikes Peak Highway on Jan. 18th.
Larimer County:
--A pair of American Three-toed Woodpeckers was reported by DeFonso in Rocky
Mtn. National Park near Dream Lake on January 17. This lake is uphill from
the Bear Lake parking area.
Logan County:
--2 adult male Barrow’s Goldeneyes were reported by Kranik at the Sterling
Waste Treatment Plant on January 13. Please call (970-522-4804) or stop by
the office and let them know you intend to bird the area. Call Friday if you’
ll be out on the weekend.
Prowers County:
--A male Red-bellied Woodpecker was reported by Leatherman at the south end
of the Lamar Community College woods on January 13.
Pueblo County:
The following birds were reported by Percival at Pueblo Reservoir on January
16 and 17:
-- Mew Gull - 1 adult, North Shore Marina tires on Jan 17th and 16th
--Great Black-backed Gull - 1 adult, South Shore Marina tires on Jan 17th
and 16th
--Lesser Black-backed Gull - 6 (5 adults, 1 1st year) on Jan 16th
--Thayer’s Gull – 1 juvenile on Jan. 16th
--White-winged Scoter - 2 adult males, near the dam on Jan 17th (1 on Jan
16th)
--Long-tailed Duck - 2 near the dam on Jan. 17th (3 on the northeast side
of Res. on Jan. 19th)
--Surf Scoter 1 female on Jan. 16th (2 on northeast corner of Res. on
Jan. 19th.
--Barrow’s Goldeneye -4 (2 male; 2 female) on Jan 16th
--The following birds were reported by Percival at the Pueblo Reservoir
South Shore Marina tires on January 9 and 13:
--2 Glaucous Gulls (1 first year and 1 second year)
-- An adult Thayer’s Gull (also seen on Jan 11)
-- An adult GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL (also seen on Jan 19)
-- 4 Lesser Black-backed Gulls (2 adult/2 first year, also seen on Jan 11);
--and a first year ICELAND GULL (note, the bird was seen in the afternoon
and it is likely the same bird seen in the AM at Pueblo City Park). Last
reported on Jan 17th at south marina tires.
--An imm ICELAND GULL was reported by Schmoker at Pueblo City Park on
January 3. Ackley reported the 1st-cycle ICELAND GULL at Pueblo City Park on
January 8, and Percival reported it on January 9 and on Jan 11 (in the AM).
Percival also reported a dark juvenile Thayer’s Gull at Pueblo City Park on
Jan
9.
--A GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL (1st year) was reported by Percival at Pueblo
Reservoir on the south east part of the lake on January 12.
--Lapland Longspurs were reported by Percival at Pueblo Reservoir on January
9, 16th and 17th.
--A Black Phoebe was reported by Percival at the Rock Canyon, below Pueblo
Reservoir Dam on January 9 and was seen again on Jan 13.
--2 White-winged Doves were reported by Percival in Beulah on Jan. 17 (Note,
an adult female Red-naped Sapsucker was also seen).
The DFO field trip for Saturday, January 24 is to Castlewood Canyon and
local feeders and will be led by Gail Evans (303-758-2231). Call leader for
where and when to meet. May carpool at Parker Regional Park. Half day trip,
but
good spots for picnicking.
The DFO field trip for Sunday, January 25 is to Cherry Creek State Park and
will be led by Karen von Saltza (720-568-2231). Meet at 0800 at the marina.
Bring scopes and dress for changeable weather. Half day trip so lunch is
optional.
