Hopefully this post goes through. I think I finally figured how to
post to the new site.

The Upper Big Thompson Sanitation District is threatening to shut off
the outlet from the sewage treatment plant to the pond that Bill
Kaempfer mentioned in his recent post.. This would cause the pond to
totally dry up. I believe the Sanitation District has some concerns
that the wildlife using the pond is adding pollutants which go to the
Big Thompson river. We certainly would hate to lose one of our few
nice pond habitats in Estes. We have Wilson Snipe using this area
almost year around and Sora have bred their in the summer. And it is
a frequent source of unusual migrants; the rarest was probably a Red
Phalarope.

Thus if anyone decides to venture up to Estes to look for the Swamp
Sparrow I would appreciate it if you would let me know by email. I
could use this as an example of how others appreciate this habitat.

Thank you,

Gary Matthews
