Bent County: --7 Swamp Sparrows and 1 LE CONTE'S SPARROW were reported by Nelson at the west end of John Martin Reservoir on January 31. The area is south of Rd JJ and west of Rd 20. On February 4, Shaum found 8-9 Swamp Sparrows in the area. --A 2nd-cycle Glaucous Gull was reported by Shaum below John Martin Dam on February 4. --A female Eastern Towhee was reported by Shaum at the corner of JJ and 16 road in the NE corner on February 4. The property on the NE corner is private, but the bird can be seen from the road. Boulder County: --A Turkey Vulture was reported by Nunes soaring near the intersection of South Boulder Road and Cherryvale on January 30. Kaempfer reported a Turkey Vulture near Baseline and Foothills Hwy in Boulder on February 1. On February 3, Hansley reported a Turkey Vulture soaring near the Denver-Boulder Turnpike and Table Mesa Drive. --Two White-winged Scoters were reported by Nunes at the Valmont Reservoir complex in Boulder on January 31. The scoters were seen again on February 1 by the First Sunday Birders of the Boulder Bird Club. --A Gray-crowned Rosy-Finch was reported by Kaempfer at Fawnbrook Inn in Allenspark on January 31. --An adult GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL was reported by Zilly at McIntosh Lake in Longmont on February 2. Boulder/Broomfield Counties: --A first-cycle GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL was reported by Smart at Stearns Lake on February 3. Larimer County: --A Swamp Sparrow was reported by Kaempfer below the dam at Lake Estes on January 31. Mesa County: --A White-winged Crossbill was reported by Beason on the Skyway Trail of Grand Mesa on January 31 and February 1. Pitkin County: --Gray-crowned Rosy-Finches were reported by Filby at Sam's Knob of Snowmass on February 4. --A male White-winged Crossbill was reported by Filby at the top of the Gondola at Snowmass on February 4. Pueblo County: --A male Long-tailed Duck was reported by Percival at the north shore marina of Pueblo Reservoir on February 3. The DFO field trip for Saturday, February 7 will be to the Longmont Area led by Chris Owens (303-772-6048). Meet the leader at 0800 at Jim Hamm Nature Center. Trip will end around noon, so lunch is optional, but bring snacks and drinking water. Dress for changing weather. Will carpool as needed. The DFO field trip for Sunday, February 8 will be to the Wheat Ridge Greenbelt led by Patty Echelmeyer (303-233-4947). Meet the leader at 0900 at Prospect Park lake, south of West 44th Ave just east of Robb St. Easy walk, will finish by noon so lunch is optional. Bring snacks and water.
