What do you know about Colorado Field Ornithologists? First, it is one of the
best organizations of its kind in the US.  Why? Because of volunteers like you.

As chairman of the Nominating Committee, I’m interested in expanding CFO’s
excellence. We need volunteers to serve on our board of directors—people with
ideas and energy. You needn’t be able to identify a bird by its shadow or by a
drifting feather. You do need interest in one or more activities and the time
to contribute to our effort.

How do you know CFO?

v     Maybe through COBirds, where you learn quickly about all things bird. And
you’ve probably tried Tony Leukering’s maddening (partial) bird pictures on the
weekly Photo Quiz (that gets 200,000 hits annually).

v     When you want to flock, you come to the annual convention to see birds
and birders. This year’s Alamosa convention will keynote Ted Floyd, the author
of the Smithsonian Guide to North American Birds. Project winners and Awards
will be announced. Bob Spencer’s acceptance speech after Joe Roller’s
testimonial was a great warm-up before the keynote.

v     To find a rarity in a special place, you join a CFO field trip. And when
you do glimpse a rarity, you submit your record to CFO’s “Colorado Birds
Records Committee.” Your sighting is written up in “Colorado Birds,” the
quarterly magazine that20offers fascinating photos and articles.

v     Heading to a remote spot in Colorado to visit your aunt, you first review
the County Birding website to check nearby county hotspots.

But to advance today, we need more volunteers. The above activities have
committees that love additional help. We also will be replacing three retiring
directors in May.

Become a volunteer. Also, please submit nominations for Director. We want
representation of all kinds of birders from all sorts of habitats. Feel free to
nominate yourself. Describe your interests. For questions or suggestions,
contact me at 303 740 7575 or at [email protected]. And if you are not yet a
member, become one, then join the membership committee and contribute ideas on
snaring holdouts.
