Folks,

Loch and I headed to John Martin Reservoir this morning to look for the
sparrows found by Duane earlier this week. Following his directions, we worked
the vacated river channel for several hours. We kicked up several Swamp and
Lincoln's Sparrows in with the hundreds of American Tree Sparrows, Song
Sparrows and White-crowned Sparrows. On the way back to the car, Loch located
a single Le Conte's Sparrow that we were able to observe and photograph. This
was quite a thrill, having not seen one of these beauties in Colorado since
2003. This location may be suitable for over-wintering sparrows for years to
come. Many thanks to Duane for discovering this habitat and sharing it with us.
