Bill Kaempfer, John Vanderpool and I headed out to look for Snow Buntings today in Weld Co. No luck on the bunting, but we saw a dozen Rough-legged Hawks, two Golden Eagles, three Prairie Falcons, one Merlin for a total of nine raptor species. Driving around the Pawnee and areas close by we failed to turn up any large flocks of Horned Larks.
Heading towards Windsor among the thousands of geese on Woods Lake was a blue morph Snow Goose and a hybrid Snow x Canada Goose (?). All white head and neck with Canada Goose body. Similar to Schmoker's picture from Stearns Lake. Stopping at Windsor Lake a Greater White-fronted Goose was swimming with a flock of Canada Geese. Also on the lake was a first year Thayer's Gull. We ended the day with 37 species in Weld Co.
