Hi all,

Yesterday, 2/7, Mike Henwood and I took a group of Master Birders out to the
plains area. We saw 2 Merlins a couple of miles east of Quail Run Rd, on 160th
Ave. This was in a location with a shelterbelt made up of conifers and
deciduous trees. I saw one female Richardsonii. We got great looks at this
bird. Curiously, there was another Merlin about 50 feet apart from this first
bird. We only got a look of the silhouette of this bird, since it was in the
shade, and then flew into another shady spot. We could not pick up any
distinguishing markings because of this. I presume it was a Richardsonii?

We were also treated to observing two Red-tailed Hawks performing an aerial
exchange of nesting material!

Good birding,
