Regarding Brandon Percival's recent posting on the singing Long-tailed Duck: I started birding in the Toronto area in the early 1940s; wintering "Old-squaws" then sometimes numbered in the thousands; wherever they congregated (e.g. Eastern Gap, Toronto Bay, Sunnyside) their loud calls could be heard at any time of day; their "ah-hang-gah" was a pleasure to hear, particularly on the 15-minute ferry ride to Toronto Island. Speirs reported a CBC in excess of 11,000 Long-tailed Ducks in Toronto in 1960. _________________________________________________________________ Windows Liveā¢: E-mail. Chat. Share.
