Greetings again-

Anybody need Double-crested Cormorant for their Feb. Denver County list?

Many, many thanks for the myriad responses from the list about locations of
Double-crested Cormorants in the Denver/Boulder area. Most people suggested
the "spa also known as Valmont Reservoir" in Boulder. Dave Madonna confirmed
last night that they do still have a small flock of DCCOs-including the
one-winged DCCO he's been watching for 5 years.

But the DCCO prize of the day goes to Paula Bard, who suggested checking City
Park in Denver. Since this bird had come from City Park in Dec., this really
should have been a no-brainer. But I had just assumed that most DCCOs would
have been long-gone by now. However, I skeptically stopped by today and-lo and
behold-2 DCCOs were sitting in the trees at the large lake close to the Museum
of Nature and Science (called Ferril Lake in my map book but City Park Lake in
other places). Another person noted that her records showed that breeding
DCCOs tend to return to the City Park lakes starting in mid-Feb. I had no idea.

So this bird is most likely heading back home to City Park-and it probably
won't have long to wait for more compatriots.
