Bent County: --Peterson reported that Swamp Sparrows continue to be found at the west end of John Martin Reservoir on February 15. --The female EASTERN TOWHEE was reported by Peterson at the Corner of JJ and 16 Roads in the NE corner. The property is private but the bird can be seen from the road. Boulder County: --All 3 species of Rosy-Finches were reported by Dunning at Fawnbrook Inn in Allenspark on February 7. Waltman reported all three species of Rosy-Finches at Fawnbrook Inn on February 11. Nunes reported all three species of Rosy-Finches again on February 14. --2 Thayer's Gulls (1 ad, 1 1st-cycle) were reported by Szeliga in the NW corner of Boulder Reservoir on February 7. On February 12, Szeliga reported 1 adult Thayer's Gull at Boulder Reservoir. --An adult MEW GULL was reported by Szeliga at Cottonwood Marsh in Boulder on February 15. El Paso County: --A pair of Barrow's Goldeneyes was reported by Luck at Big Johnson on the NE side on February 7. On February 10, Brown reported one male Barrow's Goldeneye. Jefferson County: --5 Trumpeter Swans (4 ad, 1 juv) were reported by Dunning on Lower Church Lake on February 7. The swans were seen again on February 15 by Gent. Lower Church Lake is at US 36 and Church Ranch Blvd. Larimer County: --A Mute Swan was reported by Kogler at Ryan Gulch Reservoir on February 7 and was seen again on February 9 by Brown. On February 10, Griffin reported that the Mute Swan had moved to a smaller pond SE of the reservoir. --At Donath Lake in northern Loveland, Komar reported 1 imm Glaucous Gull and 2 Thayer's Gulls (1 ad, 1 1st-cycle) on February 14. Morgan County: --A Winter Wren was reported by Erthal at Boyd Ponds SWA in Log Lane Village near Fort Morgan on February 15. Pitkin County: --At Gateway Mesa, McConnell reported all three species of Rosy-Finches on February 14. Teller County: --Gray-crowned Rosy-Finches were reported by Chartier near Victor on February 14. The DFO field trip for Saturday, February 21 will be South Platte River Wanderings led by Ed Holub (303-979-2194). Meet the leader at 0730 at the South Platte Park's Carson Nature Center, north of Mineral Ave, 1 block west of S. Santa Fe Drive. Trip will end at noon, but bring snacks and water. The DFO field trip for Sunday, February 22 will Roam the Prairies with Ira and Tammy Sanders (303-278-7172). This trip will go to the northeastern plains looking for wintering raptors. Meet the leaders at 0730 at Division of Wildlife, 6060 N Broadway. Trip could continue as late as 3 pm so bring lunch, snack, and water. May need Wildlife pass and/or State Parks pass. The next monthly meeting of Denver Field Ornithologists will be on Monday, February 23 at 7:30 pm in the Ricketson Auditorium of the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.
