Hey all, I stopped by Baxter Lake on County Line Road this morning to look at the swans being reported. They are clearly TUNDRA SWANS. Swans are one of the most underrated identification challenges (along with Ravens, in my opinion), but that said, I see nothing on these birds that does not point to Tundra Swan. They are small, their necks are relatively short, the bills are small, the cheek contour is angled, all the adults have yellow spots at the base of the bill, the width of the skin between the bill and the eyes is small, the heads are small, the heads are rounded, etc. Among other things, the yellow on the bill completely rules out Trumpeter Swan.
