Feb 7     Northern Shrike (returns to the same willows along lake every year);
witnessed the Shrike fighting with a Magpie last week; the Shrike won

Mar 10    Robin - backyard

Mar 11 Mt Bluebird - he awaits a female

Observation: I've had a flock of Stellar's Jays in yard since beg of Feb; for
some reason today I don't see even one, but they're here. Anyway, one of the
Jays has quite a vocabulary and I'm not sure if that's normal. But being very
smart he's concluded that when the pine squirrel is chattering in the yard, I
place raw almonds in the feeder for he and his mate. Now the Jay mimics the
pine squirrel's chattering and wah-lah, I place almonds in the feeder. I am
very well-trained. His other vocals are very distinctive and healthy; he
should find an excellent mate.
