Cobirders, April 8, Great Blue Heron Tabor Lake Colony, west of parking lot along bike path north side of Clear Creek, Prospect Park, Wheat Ridge GB: two active nests at top of tree on very small island , 4 birds, two standing, and two active nests occupied in tiny sapling Elms south of the tree, but no males. This is in contrast, to 12 active GBH nests in 2002 before the Cormorants arrived. Cormorants occupied over 50 nests in the tree and five nests in the saplings. Also, in Tabor Lake were Greater Scaup, 3 males in bright new plumage and 1 female. A pair of Coopers Hawk are nesting near Clear Creek between of the bridge at the parking lot and the covered picnic table to the west. The male was standing guard near the nest.
