This evening at 7:15 PM there were two lesser black-backed gulls, six California gulls, and an imm ring-billed gull on shore and just off shore at Cherry Creek State Park seen from the Lake loop. (fits with Tina's posting) Also 80 coots. Ducks are paired up or in small groups, with today's sightings mallard, gadwall, shoveler. This past week cinnamon and gr w teal and pintail were present. Red-w blackbirds are on territory, and females are starting to arrive. Avocets and many killdeer are here, but the water level is high and I haven't been lucky enough to find a yellowlegs yet. As in posts by others, turkey vltures went through (and are still coming through) in numbers the past 5 days. My daughter had a flock of 15 over Smoky Hill and Chambers in Aurora at 6 PM Thursday 4/9. We seem to be about a week past the big push of red-tailed hawks of all color patterns.
