Looked at some lakes up north of Fort Collins, went to Grandview Cemetery, and
took my normal circuit east of the Poudre River (south of Prospect as far as
the Environmental Learning Center). Interesting weather, a few changes in the
birds, but nothing major.

Wellington Reservoir #4 (called North Poudre Reservoir #4 in the DeLorme) on
the e side of CR11 just south of CR66:
Common Loon (two in full breeding plumage)

North Poudre #3 (w of CR11 n of CR66):
lots of assorted waterfowl but nothing unusual

Unnamed reservoir on Boxelder Creek due north of North Poudre #3:
Peregrine Falcon (sitting in a tree southwest of the res)

Terry Lake (north of the junction of North College Ave. and SR 1 (aka north of
"the Y"):
Common Loon (1 in breeding plumage) at the far southern end of the lake along
the dam, best viewed from Terry Lake Rd. just n of Country Club Rd.

Grandview Cemetery:
Mountain Chickadee (1)
Sharp-shinned Hawk (1a male eating an American Robin) - interestingly, all the
other robins, including some nearly 100 yards away, were giving their distress
call. Also, earlier I approached a flicker sitting on the ground just outside
the cemetery on the golf course that appeared "tame". As I got within a
distance (10 feet or so) that clearly indicated something was unusual, the
flicker suddenly flattened itself on the grass, then right before my eyes got
pounced on by what I think was this same sharpie. When the sharpie looked up
and saw me quite close, he released the flicker and flew off (and apparently
soon found the robin). The flicker appeared to be unharmed (at least
physically) and flew off in the opposite direction from that of the hawk's
departure.

Poudre River circuit:
Osprey (2) one carrying nest material
White-crowned Sparrow (still plenty present)
Turkey Vulture (1)
Say's Phoebe (1)
Black-crowned Night-Heron (2)
Yellow-rumped Warbler (2 bright males - one Myrtle and one Audubon's traveling
together, clearly appeared to be migrants)
Blue-winged Teal (2 pairs)
White Pelican (group of 20+) at Cottonwood Hollow Natural Area

Western Chorus Frog (heard) FOS for me in the Fort Collins Area (at Cottonwood
Hollow NA)
[Total of 46 species on the Poudre River circuit - misses were White-breasted
Nuthatch, Double-crested Cormorant and maybe Greater Yellowlegs.]

Surprised not to see any swallows over any of the bodies of water. Did see two
Barn Swallows on a wire along CR66 w of CR11. Tomorrow?
