I too, bundled up and headed out for a tour of lakes and such. I
visited Lon Hagler, Bud Mielke Res., Private pond on CR21, Cattail
Pond, Lonetree, Boedecker, Green Ridge Glade, Wellington Downs Gravel
ponds, Duck Lake, and Loveland Lake.

Most of the big lakes were surprisingly empty. No big gull flocks to
speak of except 45 Franklins at Boedecker, along with 28 White-faced
Ibis there too. The little ponds were busy with dabblers and divers,
Pied-billed Grebes and Coots. Western Grebes and White Pelicans
looked cold.

A few Avocets at Duck lake, yesterday at the Wellington Gravel Ponds
there were 3 with one Black-necked Stilt.

Just west of the Windsor Exit and I-25 on the south side is a little
wetland. There were tons of swallows. I have one picture with four
species - Tree, Barn, Violet-green and Cliff. They were hiding in the
trees or on the fence hawking what bugs they could find.

Home in the warm house, put another spoonful of mealworms out for the
robins. Goldfinches that look like they got into paint, but didn't
quite finish are swarming the feeders.

Rain's turning to snow for real.
