Hi all,
Today we checked out some ponds around Lyons. There is a pond south of the
intersection of Hwy 36 and McConnell Dr. (near the U-Pump-It gas station).
We originally saw Common Mergansers, Blue-winged Teals, and some Belted
Kingfishers. I took some photos of Common Mergansers taking flight off the
water. When we got home, I downloaded the camera and looked at one of the
photos of the Common Mergansers and saw that there was a very out of focus
bird along the shore. My general impression of it was a GREEN HERON! After
some pleading, our parents took us back to town and we found the GREEN HERON
hidden in the vegetation along the shore.
