Late Tuesday afternoon, while looking at shorebirds at the pond on the south
side of Squirrel Creek Road, I caught sight of a bird flying north towards me,
just west of the pond; just when I realized it was a Cuckoo a garbage truck
came speeding by (the drivers must be paid by the number of trips to the dump!
). When I refound it, it had made a 180 degree-turn and was flying south. It
was quite DARK above.
I know this is a late post but just thought someone might want to check the
area again. I drove along Shumway Rd, west of the pond, several times but
could not refind the bird. A few White-faced Ibiss were in the irrigated field
on the east side.

There were many species of shorebirds at the pond : Leat Sandpiper,
Semipamated, Western, an Avocet, 2 Ibis (one was definitely a White-faced and
the the other one was kind of hiding in the s-w corner and hard to see (no
scope!!!). A visiting Alaskan birder had called me earlier and told me there
was a possible Glossy Ibis there earlier in the day. There were about 50 L-b
Dowitchers, several Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs, a Willet, and possibly a
White-rumped Sandpiper (the wings definitely extended past the tail) but I
never actually saw the white rump). There were many Wilson's Phalaropes and 3
pair of Western Grebe.
There is quite a bit of mud there now.

CAUTION : the garbage trucks really speed on that narrow road on the way to
the dump; there is little space to park. I park on the north side where the
horse enclosure is. Cross the road with caution.
