Cobirders,

Late this afternoon, I observed two alternate plumaged Ruddy Turnstones
on the south side of Adobe Creek Reservoir, Bent County, Colorado. They
were north of the "dam" along the dredged outlet canal. Drive north (or
south) on Bent County Road 10 to Road UU. Drive west to the spillway to
the dam, and head north from the gates as far as you are comfortable.
The turnstones were on the tips of the dredged dikes on either side of
the canal. They associated with some alternate plumaged Black-bellied
Plovers, which may be easier to spot, since they are taller and more
conspicuous.

I called Brandon Percival and Stan Oswald about these birds, and they
had no problem relocating them later in the evening. However, in my
years of experience with migrating shorebirds on the eastern plains, I
think it is unlikely that they will stick around.
