Hello everyone,
I hit up a few green ways this afternoon. Soon after leaving my house, I
tracked down a singing ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK along Mohawk Ave. Near Colorado
Ave. I ran into my first of 44 SWAINSON'S THRUSHES. Major numbers of these guys
along Boulder Creek and other smaller tributaries. On the stretch of Boulder
Creek between the Confluence Ponds and 30th St. I found a handful of gems
including a first-summer SUMMER TANAGER, 1 adult male BLACKPOLL WARBLER, 1
NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH, 1 VEERY, 1 HERMIT THRUSH, 2 LINCOLN'S SPARROWS, YELLOW,
YELLOW-RUMPED, ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, 2 WESTERN TANAGERS
and 1 PLUMBEOUS VIREO. I continued to bird along the creek to about 55th St.,
finding another male ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK, a female BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK,
GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE and a BULLOCK'S ORIOLE.
Over by the Bobolink field north of Baseline Rd. I had two fly-over LONG-BILLED
CURLEWS.
Great rainy-day birding!
