Hi COBirders,

After seeing Ted Floyd's forecast for a good morning, we were
anticipating a good run. Brian Gibbons opened nets at 6:15, and by
7:45 we'd already netted about 30 birds. Many Swainson's Thrush and
Spotted Towhees were on the ground early - and we anticipated a big
Swainson's Thrush day - but they almost all disappeared quickly. We
did, however, catch several towhees. Alas, the sky started clearing,
and it got warmer, so not much activity after about 10:30. Total new
birds banded, about 60.

This was "Tanager Day" with 6 Western Tanagers banded (5 m, 1 f, 3 in
one net together),
and one ***** SUMMER TANAGER ****(sy male) was banded.

Many other good birds seen in the trees - including CHESTNUT-SIDED
WARBLER (f), Virginia's Warbler, few Yellow-rumps, some Orange-crowned
Warblers, Bullock's Orioles, Black-chinned and Broad-tailed
Hummingbirds, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Black-headed Grosbeak (m), W Wood
Pewee, (and a talented European Starling mimicking coyote and lamb!)
Also - close-up views on perched male and female *** ROSE-BREASTED
GROSBEAK *** (but alas - not carrying cameras!).

Banding Highlight today:
