Good Morning, Bird Fans: Deb and I took our early morning meander to the 12 Mile beaver pond at Cherry Creek SP. We found a rainbow of species soaking up early sunlight: a chortle of chats, a gross of grosbeaks, a mask of yellow- throats, and from the marsh pond, a (w)rasp of wrens.
Most interesting was trio of grosbeaks--- a male Black-headed and a male Red-breasted showing off for a female Black-headed. The show ended when she dispatched the fellas on a donut run to some nearby feeders. At the other end of the pond, a Yellow-breasted Chat wailed its homage to the Three Stooges as a Gray Catbird followed it around the bushes, offering bemused mewing--- taking notes, no doubt. Another chat was whooping it up at the Shop Creek trailhead. There were at least 5 sets of chats in the SE quadrant of the park last year. May and Cherry Creek-- a fine combo! Steve Kennedy S.
