At approximately 7:00 pm last night I heard loud and persistent chiks in the
deciduous trees around my pond and riparian area. I was able to get a good
look at a brilliant yellow breast and a pale blue-gray wing with 2 white
wing bars. Subsequent looks revealed all the other parts of a male
Blue-winged Warbler. The bird was associating with singing and chipping
Yellow Warblers.

Robin Nicholoff was able to come over and we watched and listened to the
bird from 7:35 to dark.
Robin was able to see everything except a wing. He did feel confident that
he saw enough to rule out any other warbler species.

The bird was still moving around and chiking loudly after dark. I couldn't
refind it this morning but there is a chance that it might still be here as
there were so many singing and chipping Yellow Warblers that I had a hard
time working through them.
A Blue Grosbeak and Common Grackle were new arrivals this morning.

Yesterday I floated the North Fork River from Paonia to Hotchkiss. We put in
along willow-covered gravel bars where a Fox Sparrow was singing his lovely
song.
