Cobirders,

At around 9:30 a.m. on 6/1/09, I observed an immature-plumaged Neotropic
Cormorant on the south side of Adobe Creek Reservoir. It was perched on
a low snag in the water at the end of the outlet canal road heading
north from the dam.

I got to observe the small size, slender body, neck and head, and long
tail. The bird was brownish overall, including the throat and chest. The
bird spontaneously flew south from the end of the spit, and south to the
dam, where it briefly swam in the outlet canal. I got to observe it in
flight, neck extended without the crook seen in Double-crested
Cormorants (some are in the area), but the Neotropic Cormorant did not
associate with them. It headed south along the outlet ditch for about
1/2 mile, and may have landed along the flowing outlet canal. I am not
entirely sure if it will return to the reservoir.

To reach this site, drive west on Bent County Road UU from Bent County
Road 10. The dam structure and outlet canal area will be obvious.
