Ted Floyd's comment about cutting off the Penstemon blooms as would Morticia
Addams made me smile.

I have been working for years to plant perennials that attract hummingbirds.
Although many of my Penstemon varieties are long done with blooms by the
July hummer migration, I thought I would recommend some varieties that have
been really wonderful in my gardens.

All of these perennials start blooming early and go through the fall. They
are especially favored by the hummers:

Penstemon pinifolius - Pineleaf Beardtongue

Penstemon mexicali - Red Rocks and Pikes Peak Purple

Centrathus ruber - Jupiter's Beard

Agastache - any and all varieties - haven't seen a variety that I don't like

I have come to understand that the hummingbirds will be coming through when
my Agastache begin flowering.
