I checked Cheney Res. (~5000 ft elevation) in Mesa County this afternoon to
see if Eared Grebes were still present and possibly breeding there. There
were six of them but couldn't see any nests. Also an alternate plumage
Common Loon was present on the east side of the Res (late and low elevation
for them). There was a male Bufflehead on the lake too (getting late for
them).

Also did a new BBS route on the Uncompahgre Pleateau this morning through
ponderosa pine, open high-elevation sage, and aspen. Had the usual birds up
there but highlights were: many Purple Martins were flying overhead, one Fox
Sparrow singing, and a couple Grace's Warblers singing. Almost got rained
out! What a nice place though!
