Last night I posted that I had seen 12 Black Phoebes in Eastern Fremont
County. Well, as I posted, I saw 2 sets of fledglings, each set being fed
by a parent (total 8 birds), a single Black Phoebe in juvenal plumage (1
bird), and a nest with at least 2 nestlings being attended by both parents
(total 4)--that makes 13 Black Phoebes (again it was late and I was tired,
that's when I make silly errors).

Today I checked the old sewer tanks adjacent to the bluff trail on the Canon
City Riverwalk for the Eastern Phoebe that had nested there last month.
There was an Eastern Phoebe loafing there that flew back up under the
overhanging structure that is likely a nest site--I suspect this is the
female and she is renesting. If so she will be viewable, variably, over the
nest several weeks.

I also stopped by Pathfinder Park to check on the Black Phoebe in juvenal
plumage I found day before yesterday as I had thought there might have been
a second Black Phoebe there. Indeed, there are two Black Phoebes in juvenal
plumage there. I suspect these may be the two juveniles that were present
on my friend's property last week as they have moved away and this area is
less than 2 miles away.

That now makes a total of 14 Black Phoebes in Eastern Fremont County this
week. It is very likely that there are also another pair of adult Black
Phoebes that parented the two juveniles (the timing of the two that showed
up last week at my friend's pond would not provide enough time for a pair to
produce additional fledglings which supports the existence of another pair
of adults). So it is likely that there are at least 16 Black Phoebes in
less than 25 miles of Eastern Fremont County. And there is the possibility
of a few more at a private location where Black Phoebe have nested in the
past year or two that I found today is no longer accessible.
