The past week, I have been hiking almost every day in the Gore Range area of Summit County. Below is an eBird report for a trip today around Lower Cataract Lake where the wildflowers were great and the birds good. The highlight was a MacGillivray's Warbler along with 2 Red-naped Sapsuckers.
There is a second successul Osprey nest in Silverthorne, at the Blue Water Treatment Plant. Today I observed an adult along with one fledgling--there may be a second. I have a Colorado Breeding Bird Atlas block, Willow Lakes SE quad where I have spent some time this week. Highlights have been in the woodpecker family where yesterday I confirmed a Three-toed Woodpecker and have also found nesting cavities with young for Hairy Woodpecker and Northern Flicker. The section of the block through which the South Willow Creek Trail passes has been especially productive with the woodpeckers as well as Swainson's Thrush and MacGillivray's Warbler among others. Outside of the block, had Rock Wren and Pine Grosbeak at McCullough's Gulch and several Townsend Solitaires including a fledgling in the Willow Creek drainage area.
