Hello all,

With two other birders, I watched the Black Vulture from the
Homestead Trailhead parking lot in Castlewood Canyon State Park from
9:55 to 10:15 this morning. It started off soaring and flapping to
the south, working with the Turkey Vultures to gain altitude, and
then the flock split up and I lost the Black Vulture as it headed
directly east over the ridge.

Note that the Black Vulture can be picked out of the flock by the
naked eye at great distance once you know that it flaps MUCH faster
than a Turkey Vulture -- 3 to 4 wingbeats per second. It also flaps
more frequently.
