COBirders,

After spending the major part of the last ten days at our cabin in western
Custer County (at 9,200 ft.), I can report very good hummer numbers there at
this time. The rufous came in a few days early (I think, but my wife says
there were on time), on the 4th of July. There are just a few, the
vanguard, and as we discussed in this forum last year, they seem not to be
so bellicose as those that will coming in larger numbers very soon. Last
Friday the first calliope appeared, a striking male in sharp plumage.

Also at our cabin I have not seen nor heard a single raven for a month,
maybe six weeks, and we have been spending three or four days of each week
there. During the almost 40 years we have lived there part-time we have
never experienced such an absence of ravens. Are there any corvidologists
or others out there who might be able to explain the dearth of ravens?
