I previously posted that a pair of Eastern Phoebes had nested above one of
the old sewer tanks next to the Canon City Riverwalk and in a 6-27 posting
noted that I thought they might be having a second nesting. Today I stopped
by and found a pair of Eastern Phoebes repeatedly carrying food to an
apparent nest under the overhead structure over this sewer tank. I haven't
checked there for about a week so not sure when they started carrying food
but it is likely they will be feeding nestlings for at least another week
and be easily seen during that time. Once the nestlings fledge, they will
be moving away quickly and pretty difficult to find.

The sewer tank is on the far eastern edge of the sewer district yard located
on the north side of bluff trail. This is less than 1/4 mile from the
Sell's Lake parking area for the Canon City Riverwalk.

Good numbers of all 3 phoebe species continue in the Canon City area. Last
night I had a calling Eastern Phoebe having a territorial dispute with a
juvenile Black Phoebe on my friend's property east of town. There has been
a total of 3 Black Phoebes, at least one juvenile (rebuffed when tried to
beg food from an adult) and one adult Black Phoebe that moved into my
friend's location late last week. That's in addition to the 2 juvenile
Black Phoebes at Pathfinder Park I posted about on 7-13 . And I yesterday
refound one of the phoebes I believe is a hybrid between Black and Eastern.
