Today I found 4-5 Black-throated Sparrows just south of Canon City. I was
driving with my windows down when I heard their chirping and spotted them
all in a deciduous tree in a dry gulch. There was at least one adult and
several in juvenal plumage.

*Birds of North America *online notes that Black-throated Sparrow adults "
feed young for at least 2 wk after nest departure." So I think there is a
very good possibility that this is a new Fremont County breeding location
for this species. I will try to refind them over the next day or so in
hopes of getting more evidence that they are a family group that bred
in/near the location I saw them and I will post location details. I got at
least one reasonable photo of one of the birds in juvenal plumage and will
post it tonight to my blog at http://BirdsAndNature.blogspot.com (also
check out the very good bobcat and close-up Rock Wrens photos I got this
week, also only a few miles south of Canon City),
