Dear Cobirders,
I headed out to brave the bugs at Walden Ponds in Boulder today with
the hope that I would find a Least Bittern. The light wind and post-
thunderstorm weather managed to keep the bugs bearable. I didn't find
any Bittern's, but one unidentified keck-calling marsh bird was in the
reeds in the private pond in the northwesten corner of Walden. There
were many Wood Ducks throughout the Open Space, I counted a total of
17 individuals, but not much else. The best species of the day was
Orchard Oriole --- I found a female feeding two nearly adult sized
juvenile birds next to the birding blind on the Sawhill property. If
folks are willing to brave the bugs, I bet someone will dig up a Least
Bittern at Walden in the next week or so; here's hoping.
Cheers,
Walter Szeliga
