Birders in the Colorado Springs area :
Jeannie Mitchell told me about 3 Baird's Sandpipers late last week. I went back
there this afternoon and there were over 20
sandpipers : Baird's (many), Semipalmated (3-4), Least (at least 2) on the east
side of Lambert Rd; there were 2 sandpipers on the west side but I did not have
my scope and they were too far; my impression was that one might be a Western
(just a guess here).

To get there : take Meridien Rd north from Hwy 24 in Falcon; go east on
Stapleton to Lambert; go south on Lambert; go past the large pond on the west
side of Lambert; make a U-turn and park on the east side of Lambert (not enough
room on west side); look in the drainage stream to the east; that's where most
of the birds were. The other two were on the west side of the street, a
distance upstream. I did not have time to check the whole drainage area today
but I will do that tomorrow.

Since Ramah Reservoir is still DRY, this might be an o.k. substitute for us in
the Colorado Springs area.
Several years ago, I saw a White-rumped Sandpiper on the other side of the
marsh near Eastonville Rd.
If these directions are confusing, e-mail me.
