Hello, Birders. After a dry spell of a week-plus, there was a good nocturnal passage earlier "today," Tuesday, Aug. 18th, over Greenlee Preserve, Boulder County. I heard flight calls at 150+ per hour during the 4am-5am hour, with the bulk being Chipping and presumed Brewer's Sparrows. Other birds aloft included Wilson's Warbler, Western Tanager, presumed Vesper Sparrow, Lark Sparrow, and Lark Bunting. Curiously, no Yellow Warblers that I could discern. Conditions were perfect. After a long southerly flow, we had a northerly windflow yesterday afternoon, followed by calm winds, haze, partial cloud cover, and even a fair bit of humidity. After breakfast (i.e., after sunrise), I walked around Greenlee and noticed Chipping, Brewer's, and Lark Sparrows, plus Lark Bunting. So there was a decent correlation between conditions in the sky at night vs. on the ground by day. (Which isn't always the case!)
(By the way: Calliope, Black-chinned, and Broad-tailed Hummingbirds are coming to our feeder, plus there's been a Western Tanager hanging out at Greenlee.) ------------------------------- Ted Floyd [email protected] Lafayette, Boulder County, Colorado ------------------------------- Ted Floyd Editor, Birding ------------------------------- Please support the American Birding Association: Click on http://www.goodsearch.com/?charityid=884482 to search the internet.
