sponsored by  Denver Field Ornithologists and the Rocky Mountain    
Bird Observatory.

NEOTROPIC CORMORANT (Larimer)
Green Heron (Boulder)
YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON (*Logan)
Short-billed Dowitcher (*Phillips)
Anerican Three-Toed Woodpecker (Boulder, *Custer/Huerfano, Larimer)
SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER (*Boulder)
LESSER NIGHTHAWK (Montrose)
KENTUCKY WARBLER (Boulder)

Boulder County:
--An adult male SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER was reported by Nunnes along  
the S. Boulder Creek Trail about a ten minute walk west from trailhead  
on west side of Hwy 93. Hanging out on fence line, mullen stalks etc.   
It was last seen flycatching fom a cottonwood snag near a dark brown  
house in
the woods at coordianates below. Also seen along fenceline near  
conspicous orange-flagged post.  The last known sighting was reported  
on August 23 at 7am.

--A KENTUCKY WARBLER was refound on the DFO fied trip to Gregory  
Canyon.    The bird was seen near the parking area on August  16.
--2 Green Herons were reported by Floyd at Walden Ponds on August 14.
--Two American Three-toed Woodpeckers were reported by Merrick on the  
south side of the Jean-Lunning Trail at the Brainard Lake Recreation  
Area on August 16.

Custer/Huerfano Counties:
--Two American Three-toed Woodpeckers wete reported by Percival on  
Greenhorn Mountain Road on August 23.

Larimer County:
--A NEOTROPIC CORMORANT was reported by Komar in a small pond near  
Timnath Reservoir between County Roads 76 and 78 on August 14.  The  
bird was observed as recently as August 17.
--Four American  Three-toed Woodpeckers was reported by Arnold on the  
Blue Lake Trail in Larimer
County on August 21.

Logan County:
--An adult YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was reported by Peterson at  
Jumbo Reservoir on August 23.  The bird was in the southwest corner  
part of the lake.

Montrose County:
--A LESSER NIGHTHAWK (male) was  reported by Dexter at the Nucla Sewer  
Ponds on August 8 and was observed again on August 16.

Phillips County:
--A Short-billed Dowitcher was reported by Peterson at the  Road 29  
and Road 6 ponds on August 23.



The DFO trip for Saturday, August 29 is to the Wheat Ridge Green Belt,  
led by Jackie King (303-287-1644). Meet at 7:30 at Prospect Park Lake  
near the permanent restrooms, south of West 44th Ave. just east of  
Robb St. This is an excellent area to see warblers as well as shore  
and water birds. This will be a half day trip so bringing lunch is  
optional. Leader is using a scooter for mobility so this trip is  
accessible and will involve easy walking only. This is a good trip for  
novice birders and new members. Call leader if going.

The DFO trip for Sunday, August 30 is to Northeastern Colorado,  
Prewitt and Jackson Reservoirs, led by Joey Kellner (303-978-1748).   
Meet leader at 0530 at the Division of Wildlife, 6060 No. Broadway –  
Exit I-25 at 58th Ave., go west 2 blocks to Broadway, then north 2  
blocks to parking lot on right. Habitat Stamp for State Wildlife Areas  
and State Parks Pass required. This is an all day trip so bring lunch  
and plenty of water. Be sure to bring insect repellent and sunscreen.  
Call leader if going.


Everyone is invited to come out on Saturday, August 29th, to the Old  
Stone House at the north end of Barr Lake, Adams County. Rocky  
Mountain Bird Observatory is having thier annualo Barbecue and much  
more - bird walks, an auction, educational seminars, children's events  
and a keynote address by Bill Schmoker!
