Hello all, I was trying hard to identify a mystery bird I saw in my yard this afternoon, and the best I can do is lark bunting juvenile.
It looked about the size of a house sparrow. Its back was crisply patterned in brown and beige. It had a distinctive malar that wrapped around almost to the back of the head and a less distinctive pale stripe over the eye. The eye was what struck me most, however: it looked like a teardrop and had a strong white outline all around. The bill was mostly pink with some black on top. The legs were pink. I looked at some pictures online that seemed to confirm it. If anybody has a better idea of what the bird might be, please let me know.
