Hello all - Two nights ago, at 7:30 pm, probably the same flock of Sandhill
Cranes crossing the state, and mentioned by the other posts, flew over our
house on a mountain near Conifer, going SW. It was just getting dark so I
never saw them, but their calls were unmistakable! Last spring was the
first time, in the 12 years that we have lived here, that I had ever heard
them fly over our house. I generally travel hundreds of miles each spring
and fall to photograph them, so it has been a thrill to suddenly find our
house right in the middle of their new migratory route!

And just a note, as an artist and photographer (alas, not a scientist. . .)
I find them anything but common ! Words can't begin to describe the thrill I
feel when I hear them call the first time each season -- or the 100th time;
such extraordinary creatures! I always feel sort of blessed, like just for
a moment I have the privilege of sharing an ancient and secret world. Posts
about their whereabouts are one of the reasons I subscribe to CoBirds, and I
am so grateful for this information! Thanks everyone, please don't stop!
