Hi Birders,

Working out east today I happened to catch another nice group of
Swainson's although not quite as many as Scott Seltman saw in Baca. I
estimated around 60 wheeling, kiting, and diving behind the tractor.

These hawks have adapted well to agriculture, they were swooping at
everything, including a meadowlark flushed by the combine that was
nearly nabbed right in front of my car! But they were mostly eating
locusts and mice. Scattered flocks of chestnut-collared longspurs
called overhead too.

I finally caught this amazing spectacle of the fall kettles of this
Buteo species, and it will soon be over this year, the next front will
likely push them mostly along. But I highly recommend searching out
one of these amazing kettles.
